Balancing anxiety - When is it too much?

We live in a scary world. There are shootings, natural disasters, pressures and sicknesses that are real. Wouldn't it be normal for someone to feel anxious about real threats?

Anxiety is a mechanism used by our body to alert us that there is danger. Anxiety is there to help protect us when we feel unsafe. It is a natural response and when it is balanced it is helpful. The problem arises when the feeling of anxiety is no longer doing it’s job, it is not alerting to imminent danger, but inhibiting us from functioning properly.

When the anxiety is so strong or so consistent that we stop doing the things that we want to or need to do, then our anxiety starts becoming a problem. If anxieties start to control us instead of protecting us, then the anxiety is too much.
